Native Database Provenance

In this project we study how to integrate provenance support into the core (optimizer and execution engine) of a database system with the goal to improve performance and storage requirements of provenance. Most relational provenance systems are implemented as middleware solutions using query rewrite techniques to compute provenance. These approaches suffer from poor performance that is caused by limitations in the query language (SQL), execution engines, and optimizers of standard database engines.
