Short Bio

Dr. Yuan Hong is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Illinois Institute of Technology since 2017. He co-established and currently directs the new Cybersecurity program at Illinois Tech. He received the NSF CAREER Award in 2021. He received his Ph.D degree in Information Technology from Rutgers University in 2014. Before that, he received his M.Sc in Computer Science from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada, and B.Sc. in Information Systems from Beijing Institute of Technology, respectively. He also received a National Physics Olympiad Prize in China.

His research focuses on differential privacy, secure multiparty computation, machine learning security and privacy (both attacks and defenses), cyber-physical systems security and privacy (smart grid, intelligent transportation and V2X), and optimization. His research contributions have been published in prestigious venues of Security (Oakland, CCS, PETS, TDSC, TIFS, TOPS), Data Science (EMNLP, AAMAS, CIKM, EDBT, ICDM, TKDE), Networking/Systems (ICDCS, ICCD), and Interdisciplinary Areas (T-ITS, TEM, TMIS, Operational Research, Optimization Letters). He is a Senior Member of the IEEE (2018), and his research is supported by multiple NSF (e.g., CAREER, SaTC-21, SaTC-17 and OAC) and AFOSR awards.
