Uses of Networks

There are many types of networks. Some of them are:

LOCAL AREA NETWORK (LAN): a computer network covering a small geographic area, like a home, office, or group of buildings. Ex School. It has got less data transfer rate when compared to MAN and WAN.

METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK (MAN): a computer network that is optimized for a larger geographical area than a LAN, ranging from several blocks of buildings to entire cities. These are also called as Campus Area Network (CAN).Ex Town. It has got greater data transfer rate that LAN and lesser than WAN.

WIDE AREA NETWORK (WAN): a computer network that covers a broad area i.e., any network whose communications links cross metropolitan, regional, or national boundaries. Ex Internet. WANs are used to connect LANs and other types of networks together, so that users and computers in one location can communicate with users and computers in other locations.
