Abstract

The software environment is crucial to the success of parallel application deployment in technical and high performance computing arenas. Obtaining scalable performance on the specific target platform is often the immediate goal. However, the challenge to continue to deliver scalable parallel performance in the face of evolving computing and networking technologies as well as changing user requirements and needs remains. Failing to meet this challenge creates a technology "hostage" situation, where the applications cannot leave the original target platform without further investment.

Sun HPC ClusterTools Software is designed to enable high performance computing users to create, tune, and deploy scalable parallel computing applications in an open and stable environment. The applications can then achieve scalable performance single and clustered symmetric multiprocessor Sun systems over different interconnects. Given this level of functionality, technology choices can be made reversibly based on pure application and economical requirements at any time. The Sun HPC ClusterTools framework is designed as an open infrastructure welcoming the high performance computing user community and independent hardware and software vendors to combine their best-of-breeds with Sun HPC technologies.

The new release of Sun HPC ClusterTools 4 Software, while bringing the single application scalability level to 2048 processes, introduces a new modular mechanism to support new generation and third-party native network protocols in a totally transparent interface to the existing user applications. In this talk, Dr. Hatay will explain the new and improved features of the Sun HPC ClusterTools 4 Software and provide examples of how third party interconnect solutions can be integrated into HPC environments.

Short Bio of the Speaker

Dr. Ferhat Hatay is currently responsible as the product line manager for high-performance computing products, including Sun HPC ClusterTools Software, under the Enterprise Systems Products group at Sun Microsystems. Prior to joining Sun, Ferhat was market development and performance engineering group leader with HAL/Fujitsu Computer Systems. He was also a project leader and senior research scientist with NASA Ames Research Center working on paralleliation on large scale aerodynamic analysis codes.

Dr. Hatay was a member of the NASA Ames Research Center team in 1998 to receive the NASA Software of the Year Competition Honorable Mention with OVERSET software package including OVERFLOW Flow Solver, HYPGEN/HGUI Grid Generator, Chimera Grid Tools for CFD Analysis. Ferhat received a PhD in Aerospace and Computational Sciences from University of Colorado, Boulder with graduate work also performed at Yale University and University of Miami in large-scale computer modeling and simulations working on paralleliation on large scale fluid dynamics analysis codes.
