This image explains what was shown on the previous page with a more specific example, the telephone. When a speaker speaks into the microphone the voice is encoded and then transmitted over the channel. Once it is received at the other end it is decoded by the decoding circuit and goes as output to the speakerphone in a form which is intelligible to the human ear.
